Openers get distinction mark from Sangakkara

After getting smothered by menace Rangpur bowling in their last game to taste a 69-run defeat, Dhaka Dynamites have come back to their supreme best, defeating Chittagong Vikings by 6 wickets on Thursday in the tenth match of the third season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

Dhaka captain Kumar Sangakkara was full of praise for the bowlers of his stock for being able to restrict Tamim’s Chittagong in just 92 runs. Chittagong are perhaps the most dominant batting side in this season’s BPL, with scoring 186, 180 and 176 in their first three matches. Bundling them out in just 92 runs was definitely a great success for Dhaka and for that, Sangakkara credited Mustafizur Rahman and Nasir Hossain the most.
“Chittagong have got the most dangerous batting line-up, with having players like Tamim and Dilshan at the top. But our bowlers ruled over them. Mustafizur, Nasir and all other bowlers were on top of their game and made light work of Chittagong’s batting. They didn’t let any of Chittagong batsmen to ease at the crease,” said Sangakkara.
The Sri Lankan legend also showered Shadman Islam and Shykat Ali, the batting pair who opened Dhaka innings on Thursday, with praise. They eased past 45 in just 6 overs to bring Dhaka a flying start. While Shadman played a match-winning knock of 45 off 47 balls to be awarded the Man of the Match, Shykat made 23 from 17.
“It wasn’t an easy task to bat on this track. But Shadman and Shykat made the tough task look easier. Their batting enabled our later batsmen to settle in. Perhaps we could have finished the match a couple of overs early. Still at the end of the day what matters most is the result and that came in our favour. We now need to be ralaxed before focussing on the next game,” Sangakkara opined.
