Mad Mash out there to upset Chittagong bowling

Jannatul Naym Pieal
Comilla Victorians notched their maiden victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) courtesy to the mindblowing performance by their captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, who sparkled today not with the ball but with the bat. Mashrafe promoted himself to bat at No.5 today – a decision which surprised many. But Mashrafe proved everyone wrong with smashing a scintillating undefeated knock of 56 off 32 balls.
While everyone is terming it Mashrafe’s best ever batting performance that apart from bringing him up his maiden T20 fifty, also steered his team to an unbelievable 7-wicket triumph. But Mashrafe admitted that like everyone else, he himself was a bit surprised with the knock he played today.
“Actually when I came to bat today, I had no intention to play a big knock. I couldn’t even imagine of anything like this,” said Mashrafe. “As far as my reaction is concerned, you must have realized that seeing the way I made a run after hitting the winning runs (smile).”
Mashrafe also explained the reason behind coming to bat at No.5. “Actually it was a tricky decision, a bit risky as well. I told the coach about my plan and he too was eager to see if it works. What I wanted is to squander their bowling.
“I knew if I come to bat, Mohammad Amir would be given the ball. And if I somehow survive Amir, it would be easier for our later batsmen to play their spinners in the slog overs. And even if I got dismissed, that wouldn’t hurt much because my job is not to bat. I was just their to upset their bowling,” said Mashrafe.
