Evin Lewis becomes first centurion of BPL-3

Evin Lewis has had such a great day at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Tuesday that even the edges went to the fence. The West Indian recruit of Barisal Bulls, who hails from Trinidad and Tobago, has played the innings of his career against Dhaka Dynamites when he squeezed 101 runs to become the first centurion of the third season of the BRB Cables Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

This is also the 23-year-old young man’s highest score in T20 cricket; his previous best was 82 off 45 balls that he made against Jamaica Tallawahs in a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match earlier this year for his team Nevis Patriots. The left handed opener put on an outstanding 127-run stand with Rony Talukdar on their way to scaling down a target of 159 runs set by the Dynamites. But he didn’t slow down even after the departure of his opening partner as he steered his team to victory by remaining unbeaten till the end.
Lewis’ 65-ball effort was ornamented with 7 shots to the boundary rope alongside as many as half a dozen Everest-high sixes to the stands. He took 26 runs in the 12th over off Ryan ten Doeschate smashing three sixes and a couple of fours. Barisal Bulls eventually won the match by 9 wickets to go top of the point table on net run rate with 8 points in just 5 matches.
